In May 2020, Credo Cares initiative was created in response to COVID-19 to expand Credo Software’s community outreach during these troubling times.
Over 50 million of people in the US are struggling with food insecurity, not sure when their next healthy meal will come. According to US News & World Report, the food-insecure reported higher rates of hypertension, obesity and obstructive airway disease. Poor nutrition is making our nation sick, and those with food insecurities are likely to contract diseases like COVID-19 at a higher rate according to the CDC. Food disruption occurs for a variety of reasons, but is well known to inhibit learning, cause health problems, and greatly diminish quality of life. The COVID-19 pandemic has acerbated this problem causing disruptions in income and access to healthy food. The face of hunger has broadened, and the demographics have expanded. In three expanding demographic: the multi-generational homes, the full-time working families with medical issues, and off campus college students, the percentages are shocking. According to https://feedingthecarolinas.org, they list 1 in 4 children food insecure in SC because of COVID. Association of American Colleges and Universities cited that as many as 52% of college students living off campus (who do not live with relatives) are at or below the poverty line. The according to one study, 8% of these students drop out altogether because food insecurity affects their ability to learn.
The Credo Cares initiative seeks to adapt software solutions to mind the gaps that social distancing and safety measures necessary for COVID by processing donations and providing support through a portal that allows clients to maintain their dignity in the face of adversity.
Presented Credo team with the Credo Cares Initiative in May 2020. Approached by Anderson Interfaith Ministries (AIM) in June 2020 with a need for COVID safety measures to be established for a future “drive thru” donation pick up. While the initial discussion was for simple texting between volunteer and client, a vision to use Credo manufacturing solutions of Inventory tracking, paperless initiatives, and other client mobile communications was also identified as expandable to the charity sector. A proposal was sent to Anderson Interfaith Ministries for their board to discuss. Credo began logging hours into the initiative with a desktop testing solution. We were able to provide first an inventory system that provides charities with a paperless environment to track the incoming and outgoing of donations.
